It all started with a script I couldn’t afford to produce. 😬
My husband, Christopher (also known as Mr. Hallease across the internet because he doesn’t be on the internet like that), has been writing short stories and sharing them on his podcast How Does This End? since 2021. I, being the filmmaker that I am, developed one of them into a short film script.
After completing the script adaptation, I shot it over to my producing partner and friend, Grace. She was excited to price out the project and came back a few weeks later with an estimated budget of $50k.
Yikes on bikes.
Turns out producing sci-fi films, even short ones, is expensive. Who knew?!
Me. I knew.
Nevertheless, I persisted.
I decided to pursue a comic book and enlisted the help of my friend and illustrator, Edgar Lushaju. We had already commissioned him to create cover art for some of Chris' podcast episodes, and I've always enjoyed his drawing style. I sent him the first few pages of the script, and he did his big one!

But I didn't know what I didn't know about producing a comic; insert Akira, an independent comic book editor, who converted my film script into a comic book script and also standardized the comic for future publishing. Once Edgar had completed the first 10 pages, I built a deck and reached out to publishers.
That didn’t quite go as I expected…
Got alot of rejects and then one publisher said the quiet part outloud...
…but I’m just a girl…

From 2024 to now, life happened. Edgar became a father of 2. I had to pause self-funding to focus on paying projects. The project was essentially paused for all of 2025. Akira kept in touch, keeping everything organized in the meantime and in between time.
But in 2026, with renewed vigor, AKA a few extra coins, I commissioned ASTRONYM to design and illustrate our cover and set aside money to pay Edgar to ink and letter the rest of the comic.

Until now, I have been self-funding the project.
Now that the thumbnail, inking, lettering, and cover art are all complete, we need the final step - a colorist. So, I’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign to get this thing over the finish line.

My hope is to transition my company, StumbleWell, into an IP powerhouse — pulling from the well of short stories Chris has written and my own projects.
